Hi, I'm evaluating Audiomulch and I wonder if someone could tell me if this is possible...

I want to load in a bunch of samples to a series of sample players, but then to choose which bit of each sample is being played in realtime.

Is this possible?

Hi Julian

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for but here's a few options

- If you use FilePlayer contraptions you can seek to different points in the file and play from there.

- If you use BubbleBlower you are limited to the first 15 seconds of each file but you can get it to play back grains from different parts of the file, select the length of the grains and apply an envelope.

Beyond that you probably need to look to plugins. If you're on Windows, ioplong are pretty good for this kind of thing:

Perhaps someone else has some other ideas...

Thanks Ross,
In Reaktor I use a box with a movable grid/curser to manipulate in real time the area of the sample being sentout. I'll check your ideasout - thanks!

Ah, well if you have Reaktor you can just load that as a plugin in AM. But it is something I'm interested in doing in the future. Are there any specific Reaktor ensembles you use that do this well? I'd be interested to check it out

I use Grainstates sp - but what I want to do is have about 8 file players - all with curser controlled means of selecting what part of the waveform is selected to be treated. Much of the stuff i use in reaktor could be done in mulch easier.
One comment I have from just looking over the demo is that there are too many sliders on the contraptions and not enough performance ways of changing settings. I know the meta surface can be used, but this needs to set up in advance, but it is quite fiddly using the sliders to change granular parameters fr example.

I think you'll find that the inskip parameter on the BubbleBlower is what you want if you're trying to do something like Grainstates (from what little I've seen of grainstates in the past).

I'd be interested what you have in mind in terms of "performances ways of changing settings"

Note that the sliders (especially the range sliders) have a number of keyboard modifiers that make them more performable (combinations of alt/shift/ctrl etc) Check out the using common contraption controls section of the help file for more information (it's linked off the contraption reference pages if you just hit the ? button on the Bubble Blower editor for example)

Not really the same but I've done a patch in am that uses the metasurface with 4 snaps in each corner of the metasurface and controls the inskip of bubbleblower. Up-down, open-close.

Connect an SDelay to your fileplayer/drums, then an SGain. Automating the SGain knob, you can cut the parts of the sample you dont want. Use the SDelay for detailed shifting.

The easiest way to go is probably to cut them in a Wave Editor. The Bubbleblower distorts the sound, and Id only use it if you use short samples.
