Hi,
I have been noticing that Mulch seems to get very sluggish and the GUI starts to lag after about a CPU load of 10 or so. This is when using only native mulch contraptions. I frequently also use the native Mac AU plugins of graphic eq and pitch, which obviously will add to the load.
Im currently running the setup on Mac OS 10.5.8 with 2x 2.8 Ghz and 10 gigs of ram (pretty fast!)
I have also changed the buffer setting to around 571 ms. Nothing seems to change though.
Is it just my setup or does Mulch genuinely start to feel the heat at around CPU load 10 etc.. I am not doing overtly complicated stuff, mainly test gen and southpole beats etc.
Any help please?
Thanks:)
First thing to check is whether the View > Show Contraption Input / Output Activity Indicators option is selected. This has known performance problems when using large patches and/or on large monitors.
Are you using the latest version? 2.2.1?
Let me know how you go and I'll work to get this resolved.
Thanks,
Ross.
Hi Ross,
Thanks, I checked and the activity option is not selected. I am working with the latest version as well. I do use a fair amount of South Pole's so maybe that could be slowing it down?
Its weird, another session I am messing with works fine and is running at CPU Load of 12. Some sessions do this, others seem alright.
Thanks,
Gary
Hi Ross,
just an update. right now Im running a session that has 3 Test gens, 3 South Poles, 3 M-EQs, 3 M-Comps, a P8 Mixer, A delay, and a limiter. All are native contraptions.
The CPU load is clocking at 8 or so, and even without pressing play, clicking on parameters, changing between contraptions etc is working sluggish. I dont recall previous Mulch versions being this "over-run". If you want I can send you a screen shot of the setup and you can decide. Seems very strange and is pretty much stopping me from using more complex patches and the possibility of live improv. Ive been using Mulch since the first versions and I dont remember it being this sluggish. Have you had any other reports from users?
Thanks,
Gary
Hi Gary,
That does sound very strange indeed. Especially if other patches on the same computer are not exhibiting the issue. Would you be able to email the patch to me at rossb@audiomulch.com?
Thanks,
Ross.
