I'm starting off making electronic music again and one of the programs I was told to try out as a cheaper alternative to Ableton or Reason was AudioMulch. My problem is I can't quite figure out is how to make or find VSTs to use. Is there something out there or somebody here that can help walk me through this better? The KVR website isn't laid out like they have it in their tutorial videos. And everything else looks way too confusing to me otherwise.
I'm using it primarily as a sythesizer/effects program. As far as hardware goes I have a Windows 7 tablet and an Akai MPK Mini keyboard.
Maybe you should just forget about plug-ins for now and learn up on the contraptions that come with AudioMulch. There's a great deal of functionality available, built right in: filters, effects, sound generators, mixers, loopers, etc. These are all top-notch, as good as any available elsewhere. Don't be put off by the fact that they come with the program. They're not afterthoughts or giveaways just kicking around on the Web; they've been engineered by the same person who has designed and built and maintained AM as a whole. Once you get a bunch of these contraptions down (some take some learning and thought), learn how to make them work together, and learn some of AM's other basics, then you might want to add in some outside VSTs. But I wouldn't seek out VSTs just for their own sake.
I agree that a good start would be to learn how to use AudioMulch's built-in contraptions.
After that, some useful resources for getting oriented about using VSTs in AudioMulch are:
The help file page about VST plugins:

The video tutorial about playing VST instruments using AudioMulch:

If you're just getting started you may find the other video tutorials helpful too.
I suggest checking out the kvr-audio website too, which has a huge database of plugins, and is a great resource for getting started with free plugins. Personally I think using a few well-selected VST's really brings out the potential of audiomulch.

And a few badly selected VST's brings on madness ;)
