Hi, I'm currently evaluating AM as a surround sound design tool. I'm able to "fade" stereo or mono signals between SoundOut and AuxOut2 - giving me a front-to-back-to-front pan/fade effect. What I would really like to do is to be able to position a signal anywhere in a 4 channel surround environment. I've been trying to work out how to do this with the current set of contraptions, but the closest I have come is using the metasurface, which is a little limiting as there is only one of them.
I would very much like to have 4 channel cross-fading (From a mono input) - is this possible with the current version/configuration - or should this msg find its way to the feature requests section?
Thanks,
Mark Edwards.
Hello Mark,
Nice to see you here :-)
There are no built-in surround sound panners in AudioMulch at present. For a long time I have wanted to add some but it hasn't happened yet. Please do post to the feature requests forum, especially if you are able to articulate your specific requirements.
There are a number of plugins that might be able to do what you want. Off the top of my head there are the following, but there are probably others:
Acousmodules http://acousmodules.free.fr/ (Windows & Mac)
Ambisonic panner and decoder http://www.dmalham.freeserve.co.uk/vst_ambisonics.html (Windows and Mac)
Additional Ambisonic processors http://www.york.ac.uk/inst/mustech/3d_audio/vst/welcome.html (Windows and Mac)
Octogris http://code.google.com/p/octogris/ (Mac)
A google search for "Surround panner VST" seems to bring up other options.
Hope that helps,
Ross.
FYI it is possible to do what you are trying to do in mulch currently, without resorting to 3rd party plug-ins or even employing the metasurface - and as it happens I uploaded an annotated example patch to illustrate how a while back: http://www.audiomulch.com/people/spectro/patches/sspatquadpan This is not to say that the alternatives Ross suggested (particulalry Octogris) wouldn't be useful anyway.
