The 'sync with SoundIn' functionality doesnt seem to behave in the way ide anticipated after reading up on it via manual/web.
Im simply looking to start the recording when i press play, as this would allow an easier synch of playback in another daw when taking to the mastering stage etc.
So, how does one start recording when the play button is activated?
I must be missing something here!

Have you tried automating the record button of the sound in or any file recorder?
Not sure which way you failed, but to clarify:
The Sync with SoundIn option is for when you are processing a soundfile. It starts recording when you press play on SoundIn soundfile playback. This is unrelated to pressing play on the master transport.

But yes, as Pat says, you can automate a FileRecorder if you like.
