When I have pressed play and I use automation then I cannot control the automated parameters. In some cases that is not favorable. Is it possible to suspend the automation (temporarily) so that I can manually control the parameters?

Yes on the left side of the automated parameter is a mute button / (on top of the red record button) . You have to select them individually.
It is written in the manual.
Aside from muting the automation (like paradiddle said above) this is not currently possible. I am considering adding some kind of soft takeover feature so that the automation gets muted while you are moving the knobs (ie while the mouse is down) -- I guess that's what you're asking for?
